OVERVIEW: The Troy Foundation supports arts and culture, education and youth, recreation and health and human services in Ohio.

IP TAKE: The Troy Foundation is a well-established community funder with many easily accessible grant opportunities, including one for emergency needs. This is a transparent funder that is clear about the goals for each of its programs and those of its affiliates. The foundation does not provide multiyear support, but it does regularly return to many of the same nonprofits it has previously funded.

PROFILE: Established in 1924, the Troy Foundation is a community foundation based in Troy, Ohio. The foundation began with Augustus G. Stouder, the president of the Hobart Electric Manufacturing Company, and his friend John K. DeFrees with the First National Bank & Trust Company. The foundation has grown from its original bequest of $151,640 to assets exceeding $100 million. Today, the foundation manages over 400 funds to serve thousands of people who share the goal of making this community a better place. It funds local efforts for arts and culture, education and youth, recreation and health and human services.
