SOURCE OF WEALTH: Goldman Sachs

FUNDING AREAS: Humanitarian & Policy, Education & Youth, Community

OVERVIEW:  Tracy and Catherine Wolstencroft move their philanthropy through the Wolstencroft Family Foundation. According to available tax filings, the foundation awarded just over $1 million in grants in 2017.

BACKGROUND: Tracy R. Wolstencroft graduated with a B.A. from Bowdoin College. He was a longtime partner at Goldman Sachs, where he worked for 25 years. He served as president and CEO of Heidrick & Struggles, and is currently president and CEO of the National Geographic Society (NGS).

ISSUES:

HUMANITARIAN & POLICY: Wolstencroft has contributed to global nonprofit organizations with impact-driven missions. Wolstencroft is on the board of International Rescue Committee, which the family has given millions. He is a trustee of the Brookings Institution, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, both of which the family has supported.

EDUCATION & YOUTH: Wolstencroft supports his alma mater Bowdoin College. Other grantees have included Greenwich Academy, Teachers College Annual Fund, and King’s Academy.

COMMUNITY: The Wolstencrofts have also supported organizations like Christ Church Greenwich, NYU Langone, and Jewish Health. The family have also supported National Geographic Society.

LOOKING FORWARD: The family does not spread their money particularly widely through their foundation, giving to a handful of organizations annually. Expect this to continue for now.
