BACKGROUND: Raised outside of Los Angeles, Tony Robbins attended Glendora High School. In the 1980s, he became involved with Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP). Today, he is known for his infomercials, seminars, and self-help books including Awaken the Giant Within. His seminars are organized through Robbins Research International.

Sage Robbins has worked as an acupuncturist and a phlebotomist.

ISSUES:

TONY ROBBINS FOUNDATION: Launched in 1991, the Tony Robbins Foundation is committed to making a difference in the quality of life for youth, senior citizens, the hungry, homeless and the imprisoned population. The Foundation has “products and programs that reach thousands of youth, more than 2,000 schools, 1,600 prisons and countless health and human service organizations.” It also runs a volunteer program called International Basket Brigade, which has delivered millions of baskets of food and household items around the world.

The foundation runs youth programming, including the Tony Robbins Foundation Mentoring Program, which encourages community leaders to serve as mentors within their local schools and nonprofit organizations. Since 1993, meanwhile, the Tony Robbins Foundation Inmate Empowerment Program has offered correctional facilities support through materials and curriculum designed for incarcerated adults and youths.

Grantees have included Feeding America, Global Learning XPrize, Youth on their Own, and Operation Underground Railroad, which aims to end child trafficking and slavery.

LOOKING FORWARD: Expect Robbins to continue to dig into his established interest areas through his long-running foundation.
