PROFILE: Established in 1993, the Community Foundation of Central Georgia (CFCG) is a community funder based in Macon, Georgia. A group of citizens founded CFCG as a way to connect donors with nonprofit causes in the central part of the state. It “works with individuals, families, corporations, private foundations and not-for-profit organizations to carry out their charitable objectives and address emerging community issues.” Areas of interest include quality of life, people with disabilities, self-sufficiency, children and youth, animal welfare and civic engagement.
CFCG has a nonprofit grant program that addresses quality of life needs in the region. These grants draw from over a dozen unrestricted funds that allow fast response to urgent community needs. For example, the Carling Memorial Foundation Fund supports the health and well-being of children, and the Clayton and Carol Paul Fund supports animal welfare. Meanwhile, other funds support civic engagement, downtown revitalization, healthcare, family services and educational development.
Grant amounts are typically less than $25,000. Learn more about foundation giving in its yearly publications. The Georgia counties that this foundation supports are as follows: Baldwin, Bibb, Bleckley, Butts, Coffee, Crawford, Dodge, Houston, Jasper, Jones, Lamar, Laurens, Monroe, Peach, Pulaski, Putnam, Spalding, Taylor, Twiggs, Upson and Wilkinson. CFCG also has two affiliate foundations: the Barnesville-Lamar Community Foundation and the Community Foundation of Coffee County. Each fund has its own unique deadlines and guidelines, and all upcoming deadlines are posted on the funder’s website.
CFCG accepts unsolicited grant application for its nonprofit grant program and several other funds, as well. Nonprofits must register on the funder’s site to access the application and web portal.
