The Broach Foundation for Brain Cancer Research

OVERVIEW: The Houston-based Broach Foundation mainly supports the department of Neurosurgery at the University of Texas.

IP TAKE: Broach’s funding focuses on preclinical research on cures for glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer for which there is no cure. The foundation’s main recipient is the Lang Laboratory of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Texas. The foundation does not appear to run an open application program, but grantseekers working in this specific area may reach out to the foundation via email or telephone.

PROFILE: The Broach Foundation for Brain Cancer Research is based in Houston, Texas. Its sole mission is to promote funding for brain cancer research to find effective treatments and ultimately a cure. The foundation is named after James Broach, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2011 and passed away in 2013. James and his wife joined the fight against this devastating disease and established the foundation with the mission “to promote funding for brain cancer research and education so that effective treatments, and ultimately a cure, can be found.”

The Broach Foundation’s grantmaking mainly supports Lang Laboratory at the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Funding focuses on Dr. Frederick Lang’s work, which aims to “make significant preclinical progress toward developing new treatments for brain tumors, particularly glioblastoma (GBM), for which there is currently no cure.” The foundation also occasionally funds Ph.D.-level research in the field of brain cancer research.

The Broach Foundation has made over $6 million in grants since its inception. In a recent year it gave away $375,000. Its main grantee, the Lang Laboratory, receives the bulk of this funding.

This funder does not appear to accept applications for funding, but prospective grantseekers conducting research on potential cures for glioblastoma may reach out to the foundation’s staff via email or telephone at 224-465-9728.
