OVERVIEW: Terrence and Nicola Mullen conduct their philanthropy through the Terrence and Nicola Mullen Foundation, which available tax filings show, gave away just under $1.4 million in 2017. The couple steadily support their schools.
BACKGROUND: Terrence M. Mullen graduated with a B.B.A. in finance and economics from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He worked the Investment Banking Division of Morgan Stanley and as a principal at Thomas H. Lee Partners, where he invested in manufacturing, industrial, media, financial services and media companies. He joined Arsenal Capital Partners in 2000 where he’s the Co-Chief Investment Officer, Co-Founder, Founding Partner and Co-Head of Specialty Industrials Group.
ISSUES:
EDUCATION & YOUTH: The couple supports Nicola’s school Dartmouth College as well as Mullen’s schools, the University of Notre Dame and Harvard Business School. They have also supported Rye Country Day School, Bishop Fenwick High School, Jumpstart for Young Children, and Andrus Children’s Center.
CHICAGO COMMUNITY: The Mullens have made numerous donations to the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Chicago, and Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly.
OTHER: The Mullens direct funds to a donor-advised fund at Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund, making the full scope of their giving hard to discern.
LOOKING FORWARD: Expect the couple to continue to support their schools and smaller Chicago organizations for now.
