OVERVIEW: The Shelby County Community Health Foundation supports preventative care, programs for children and youth, substance abuse prevention and other health-related efforts in Shelby County, Alabama.

IP TAKE: This health legacy funder is a great one to know for local project support, especially for ongoing and collaborative efforts.

PROFILE: Established in 1996, the Shelby County Community Health Foundation (SCCHF) is a community foundation based in Pelham, Alabama. This is a health legacy funder formed to manage the proceeds of the sale of the Shelby Medical Center to the Baptist Health System. A five-person board of directors governs SCCHF. It is “committed to the development and support of programs that improve the health and well-being of people and communities in Shelby County Alabama.” SCCHF funds local efforts for the quality of health services and increased efficiency of those services.

The Shelby County Community Health Foundation’s board meets each month to consider new grant applications. It prefers to fund projects that have multiple sources of support. SCCHF mostly supports programs and projects, which means that only limited support is available for operations, capital improvements, seed grants, scholarships, conferences and seminars. The funder does not support fundraising activities, travel, churches for religious purposes, research, political organizations, or advertising. There is no limit on the amount that organizations can request for grants. Grantees must wait a minimum of one year after receiving multiyear support before submitting a new request.

Important Grant Details:
