OVERVIEW: Richard and Irma Frank and family conduct their philanthropy through the Frank Family Foundation. The Franks support their schools. Other interests include health and the arts. The Mid-Atlantic is an important region of giving. According to available tax filings, the foundation made around $15,500 in grants and just under $94,000 in program-related investments in 2017.

BACKGROUND: Richard H. Frank has a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and an M.S. from MIT Sloan. He worked at World Bank Group as managing director overseeing the South Asia and Latin America operations and chaired the Banks Finance Committee. In 1997, he joined Darby Overseas Investments, where he is president and CEO.

ISSUES:

EDUCATION & YOUTH: The family supports Georgetown University, where several Frank family members graduated. Irma Frank is Senior Associate Dean for International Programs at Georgetown University Medical School and chairs the International Programs Committee. Other grantees include the Isabella & Ferdinand Academia de Espanol, and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota towards dental scholarships. Irma graduated from the Colombia-based school.

HEALTH: Grantees include American Heart Association and Children’s National Health System.

LOOKING FORWARD:  Expect the Franks to stick with their current interest areas.
