Petco Foundation

OVERVIEW: The Petco Foundation invests in animal welfare, rescue and shelter organizations across the U.S.

IP TAKE: Petco tends to award grants for general operating support rather than the project specific variety. This is an accessible funder that accepts contact and unsolicited applications.

PROFILE: The pet food and supply company Petco established its philanthropic arm, the Petco Foundation, in 1999 to create “a better world for animals and the people who love and need them.” The foundation works with organizations across the country and supports several programs including, but not limited to: adoption, medical care, spay and neuter services, pet cancer research and service and therapy animals.

Grants for Animal Welfare and Rescue

The Petco Foundation offers grants, as well as in-kind merchandise support. It is not unusual for the foundation to offer both at the same time.

Past grantees include 4 Paws 4 Life Rescue, A Forever Home Rescue Foundation, and Alley Cat Advocates. Click here to learn more about the types of organizations Petco supports.

Important Grant Details:

Although the Petco Foundation awards some grants that range from $100,000 to $750,000, most awards typically range from $5,000 to $50,000. The foundation does not impose geographic restrictions on its grantmaking.

Petco accepts unsolicited grant applications from January 1 to February 15 and June 1 to July 15 for shelter and adoption organizations. Spay and neuter providers must submit their applications from March 1 to April 15, and service and therapy organizations may apply for grants from July 4 to August 30. The foundation does not accept unsolicited grant applications for its pet cancer research and treatment grant program.
