OJC Fund

OVERVIEW: The OJC Fund is a donor advised fund that works to support Jewish causes in New York City. Its focus includes giving for Jewish culture and heritage, Jewish education, and religious and antidiscrimination groups.

IP TAKE: The OJC Fund takes “a C-suite approach” to giving and operates according to a corporate mentality. While this funder does not accept unsolicited applications, it does provide a portal for organizations to make themselves known to donors. This is a good funder for Jewish organizations to know, especially those located in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. Grantseekers operating outside that area will really struggle to get noticed.

PROFILE: Established in 2008, the OJC Fund (Orthodox Jewish Community Fund) is a donor advised fund that provides support for Jewish causes and Israel. It seeks to “to maintain a donor advised fund by honoring our commitment to fundholders by providing services to make their charitable giving administratively efficient, and personally rewarding.” While a portion of the fund’s giving goes to groups within the country of Israel, the vast majority of its funding goes to organizations that serve the Jewish community in New York City, particularly in Brooklyn.

Grants for Jewish Causes and Israel

The OJC Fund’s primary focus is support for Jewish causes and Israel. Its giving goes to the preservation and promotion of Jewish heritage and culture, Jewish education, and religious and antidiscrimination groups.

  • The vast majority of its giving stays in Brooklyn, NY, although it does give occasionally in New Jersey and in Israel.

  • In previous years, it gave over $4.2 million to Congregation Chonen Vnosen and more than $3.3 million to Keren Mugein Imoisheya. Mosdot Botoshan received over $2.5 million in 2022, as did Zichron Menachem and Karan Eluzar.

  • Other million-dollar grantees include United Talmudical Academy of Boro Park, Chayim V Chesed, Mosdot Botoshan, Sar Shalom, and Congregation Ahavas Tzdokah Vchesed, all of whom are located in Brooklyn. Grantees in Israel include American Yedidim, which works to support youth in Israel, and We Think of Lev Lezulat, which supports needy families in Israel.

Important Grant Details:

The fund has given over $606 million to 7,008 organizations. Grants range from just a few thousand up to several million; however, the most common amount is closer to $5,000.

The OJC Fund does not appear to accept unsolicited proposals or requests for funding; however, it does provide a portal for organizations to “Signup […] to accept OJC/Nadven donations.”
