OVERVIEW: The North Georgia Community Foundation supports education, health, human services, animal welfare, art, and the environment in 15 counties of Georgia.

IP TAKE: This community funder has a streamlined and accessible application process that welcomes new grant seekers once per year.

PROFILE: Established in 1985, North Georgia Community Foundation (NGCF) is based in Gainesville, Georgia, and addresses the local needs of this region. This community foundation manages more than 300 charitable funds that are established by families, individuals, nonprofits and companies. Grantmaking includes education, health, human services, animal welfare, art and the environment.

NGCF has a community impact grants program with a grant cycle that is open each spring. The funder supports organizations that have already secured other forms of support.

Foundation grants are typically $10,000 or less. View a list of past grantees on the funder’s website. Learn more about local giving in the funder’s 990 tax forms, which are linked on its financial information page. Past grantees include the Family Ties Gainesville, Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier, Fast Friends of Hall County Animal Shelter, Friends of the Cornelia-Habersham Library, and Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. Also, the Forsyth County Community Foundation is an affiliate foundation of NGCF that local leaders established in 2015. This affiliate foundation has a local advisory board and specifically focuses on interests in Forsyth County. NGCF focuses grantmaking on a 15-county service area that includes the following North Georgia counties: Banks, Dawson, Fannin, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Jackson, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union and White.

NGCF accepts unsolicited grant applications for its community impact grants program. The application process is online. The board makes grant decisions in August and notifies applicants of decisions by early September. The foundation also makes free meeting rooms and affordable office space for rent available for local nonprofits in Gainesville.
