OVERVIEW: Mitchell and Karen Kuflik conduct their philanthropy through The Mitchell and Karen Kuflik Charitable Foundation, which, according to available tax filings, gave away around $800,000 in 2018 . The couple’s giving through their foundation focuses on Jewish causes in the New York City area and beyond.

BACKGROUND: Mitchell A. Kuflik received an AB in economics from Harvard University in 1984. He is a founding partner, principal, and portfolio manager at Brahman Capital Corp in New York. 

ISSUES:

JEWISH CAUSES: The Kuflik family supports a range of Jewish organizations annually, including Jewish agencies, temples, and schools, with a focus on the East Coast. Grantees include Aish Hatorah New York, Congregation Tiferes Tzvi, Congregation Kirov Krovim, UJA Federation of New York, SAR Academy in the Bronx, NY Synagogue and Torah Center, Queens College Hillel, Chabad House at Harvard, and Project Inspire, whose mission is to “create an outreach movement that trains, empowers, and activates a critical mass of the Torah observant community to reach out, and facilitate their involvement in effective Jewish outreach.”

OTHER: Support has gone to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory on Long Island, ” a private, nonprofit institution with research programs focusing on cancer, neuroscience, plant genetics, genomics, and quantitative biology.”

LOOKING FORWARD: Expect the bulk of the Kuflik family’s giving to remain focused on the Jewish community.
