Mental Health Foundation

OVERVIEW: The Mental Health Foundation supports advocacy for access to quality mental health care and initiatives for reducing stigma for young people with mental health issues.

IP TAKE: This foundation seeks to eliminate stigmas associated with mental illness. It prioritizes ensuring that young people get the diagnoses and help they need to live productive lives. This previously accessible funder has temporarily paused its grantmaking, but grant seekers are invited to check back for updates.

PROFILE: Established by the Mental Health Association in New York in 1998, the Mental Health Foundation became an independent grantmaking entity in 2005. It seeks to encourage, develop, and support “educational campaigns and other initiatives to improve understanding of mental illness and ensure access to quality care.” The foundation also prioritizes the early diagnosis of mental illness in young people.

Grants for Mental Health, Public Health, Brain and Cell Research

MHF supports integrated mental health services for young people and programs that eliminate the stigma associated with mental illnesses. The foundation prioritizes programs involving peer mentoring and counseling for mental illness in youth. The foundation has also expressed interest in supporting initiatives and programs that involve assessment or evaluation of their effectiveness with an eye to replication or expansion of successful programs.
