OVERVIEW: The Lindberg Foundation Trust makes modest grants for homelessness and basic needs in Washington.

IP TAKE: The Lindberg Foundation Trust’s recent giving has doubled down on basic needs for Washington’s homeless and vulnerable populations. If your organization provides housing, food or other basic needs, submit an application by September 30 for consideration.

PROFILE: Established in 1954, the Lindberg Foundation Trust (LFT) is a private foundation that was created by the late W.H. and Isabel P. Lindberg. Residents of Pierce County, Washington, the Lindbergs supported many charitable organizations during their lives and were notable art collectors, whose paintings and drawings are now displayed in the Tacoma Art Museum. This foundation is managed by the Wells Fargo Trust Philanthropic Services platform.

LFT’s mission is to “support a variety of charitable causes in the state of Washington,” and its stated areas of interest are arts and culture, education, the environment, animals, health, human services and religion. However, recent giving has focused on the basic needs of homeless and vulnerable people. The foundation makes about 11 grants a year in amounts of up to $3,000 for general operating support.

Grants for Housing, Homelessness and Community Development

While the Lindberg Foundation Trust names broad areas of interest, recent giving has focused on services for homeless and vulnerable people in Washington. Grantees include Lynnwood’s Clothes for kids, the Sumner Community Food Bank, Seattle’s Backpack Brigade and Sidewalk, which serves homeless people in Olympia.
