FUNDING AREAS: Jewish Causes, Education, Health, Arts & Culture

OVERVIEW: Lief Rosenblatt and family conduct their philanthropy through the Rosenblatt Charitable Trust. Rosenblatt steadily supports the Jewish community and health causes. Available tax filings indicate that the foundation awarded $2.33 million in grants in 2018.

BACKGROUND:  Lief D. Rosenblatt graduated with an A.B. from Harvard University, an M.A. from the University of Oxford, which he attended as a Rhodes Scholar, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. He was a senior vice president at Lehman Brothers, a managing director at Soros Fund Management, and a senior managing member of Satellite Asset Management.

ISSUES:

JEWISH CAUSES: Rosenblatt is on the board of AVI CHAI Foundation, which works to “encourage those of the Jewish faith towards greater commitment to Jewish observance and lifestyle by increasing their understanding, appreciation and practice of Jewish traditions, customs and laws,” among other goals.

Other grantees include American Friends of IDC, American Israel Education Foundation (AIEF), Manhattan Jewish Experience, Yiddish Book Center (Rosenblatt is a board member), and Temple Israel of New York.

EDUCATION: Grantees include Middlebury College, Ethical Culture Fieldston School (Rosenblatt sits on the board), George Washington University, and Brandeis University.

HEALTH: Rosenblatt sits on the boards of Cancer Research Institute and National Shingles Foundation, which he supports.

ARTS & CULTURE: Grantees include Santa Fe Opera, Harvard Art Museums, and New York Foundation for the Arts.

OTHER: Rosenblatt has also supported Washington Institute for Far East Policy.

LOOKING FORWARD: Rosenblatt can be expected to stick with his interest areas, especially Jewish causes.
