Kent Richard Hofmann Foundation

OVERVIEW: The Kent Richard Hofmann Foundation exclusively supports HIV/AIDS organizations across the United States.

IP TAKE: The Kent Richard Hofmann Foundation is a small, private foundation that makes grants semi-annually to non-profit organizations. This funder does not generally fund medical research, but supports a wide variety of organizations that provide support to HIV patients. The foundation is both transparent and accessible, accepting unsolicited applications twice annually if you get invited to submit a proposal after your LOI has been reviewed. Don’t hesitate to contact this funder if needed.

PROFILE: Atlanta architect and philanthropist Kent Richard Hofmann initially established the Kent Richard Hofmann Foundation for “general philanthropic and educational purposes.” During his lifetime, he was an early AIDS activist. Since his death in 1988 and per his wishes, the foundation has dedicated its grantmaking exclusively to HIV and AIDS support.

Grants for Diseases and LGBTQ

The Hofmann Foundation awards HIV/AIDS grants to community-based organizations for care and direct services, education, and research. While the foundation offers grants to organizations throughout the United States, it has a “particular interest in smaller communities and rural areas.”

  • These grants support a very broad range of services, including but not limited to HIV testing, mobile testing, rural prevention programs, emergency medical assistance, post-exposure prophylaxis, mental health care, dental care and gay men’s health.

  • Grant seekers may apply for a grant online, but first, reach out to the foundation before crafting your proposal. An LOI has been needed in previous years prior to an application.

Important Grant Details:

The Hofmann Foundation’s grants are modest, generally ranging from$2,000 to $7,000.

  • Grantseekers may review the foundation’s Recent Grants to learn more about the types of programs it supports.

  • The Hofmann foundation accepts unsolicited letters of inquiry (LOIs) throughout the year through its online grant portal. Staff review LOIs on a rolling basis, however, applicants must submit their LOIs by February 23rd for a decision in mid-April and August 2 for a mid-October decision.

  • Foundation staff will invite organizations to submit full grant applications based on their initial LOIs.

  • The foundation may be contacted at (917) 573-0486 or krhofmann@gmail.com.
