OVERVIEW: Harlan and Amy Korenvaes conduct their philanthropy through the Harlan and Amy Korenvaes Family Foundation, which, according to available tax filings, gave away a little under $750,000 in 2017. Dallas is an important site of philanthropy for them, and their interests include health, education, and Jewish causes.

BACKGROUND: Harlan Korenvaes earned a B.S. in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University. He worked at Merrill Lynch and M.E. Goldstein & Co and founded HBK Investments, which focuses on market-neutral, absolute return investment strategies.

ISSUES:

HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES: The Korenvaes family is heavily involved with Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, which they support through their foundation. Korenvaes sits on the board of Children’s Medical Center Foundation. The couple gave a gift to support an endowment for the Funnyatrics Clown Program. Other grantees have included Asthma Allergy & Sinus Institute, UCLA Urology, and UT Southwestern Medical Center.

EDUCATION & YOUTH: The couplehas supported Rhode Island School of Design, Southern Methodist University, Capital for Kids, Teach for America, and Greenhill School.

JEWISH CAUSES: Korenvaes and Amy support Jewish organizations via their foundation, including Jewish Agency for Israel, Congregation Shearith Israel, Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, and The Intown Chabad. The foundation recently helped support Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas’s Community Security Initiative to “ensure the Dallas Jewish community is prepared, in a proactive manner, to handle security issues.”

POLICY: The family steadily supports American Enterprise Institute (AEI). Korenvaes is a national council co-chair of AEI out of Texas.

ARTS & CULTURE: Grantees include Nasher Sculpture Center and Dallas Opera.

LOOKING FORWARD: Expect the Korenvaes family to continue supporting their select interest areas, with an eye toward the Dallas community.
