PROFILE: Established in 2001, the Greene County Community Foundation (GCCF) is a community foundation based in Xenia, Ohio. GCCF supports many different local causes with the funds it receives from individuals, families, businesses, other foundations and civic organizations. The foundation aims to “promote philanthropy and provide stewardship and leadership to enhance the use of regional resources to meet charitable needs.” It funds local efforts for human services, housing, recreation, youth, education, domestic violence, health and other community needs.

Grants for Community Development

The Greene County Community Foundation currently only has a few grant opportunities available for Xenia nonprofits. The foundation’s grant request page details current opportunities for local groups.

  • Small Grants Program awards grants under $1,000 for capital needs in the community. These go towards permanent and semi-permanent material items that charities need.

  • Silver Friends Golden Paws Senior Pet Care is a senior pet care program that assists elderly adults who need assistance caring for their pets. These funds go towards medications for pets and veterinary expenses.

There are also two humanitarian awards: The Betty Good Human Award and the Herman Menapace Difference Maker Award. Both accept nominations for a community member who “makes a difference” through “good acts.”

The foundation also offers scholarships for local students.

Past local grantees include 4 Paws for Ability, the Beavercreek Township Park District and the Family Violence Prevention Center of Greene County.

Grants for K-12 Education

While the foundation does not currently have a program dedicated to education, tax records show that local school districts and education services groups have seen support. Grantees include Greeneview Local School District, Miami Valley School District, WPCU Sunshine Community Fund, Fairborn Board of Education, Legacy Christian Academy, Dayton Christian Schools, Greater Dayton Public Television, and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio.

Important Grant Details

Grants range between about $1,000 and $100,000. The most common amount is $5,000. The foundation awarded almost $2 million in grants in a recent year and held more than $22 million in assets.
