George Snow Scholarship Fund

OVERVIEW: The George Snow Scholarship Fund awards over $1 million in scholarships for undergraduate study to students in Southern Florida each year.

IP TAKE: This funder awards more than 60 specialized scholarships to students from Southern Florida each year and manages scholarships and awards for other organizations. The fund also provides support services to college students and a limited number of scholarships for graduate study.

PROFILE: The George Snow Scholarship Fund was established in 1982 by the family of the late George Snow, a high school teacher and real estate developer. Based in Boca Raton, Florida, the fund awards over $1 million in scholarships to “deserving individuals” in South Florida each year. In addition to traditional college scholarships, the fund offers support services to college students and a limited number of grants for graduate study. The fund also administrates scholarships and awards for other organizations.

Grants for Higher Education and Florida

The George Snow Scholarship Fund is “one of Palm Beach County’s largest sources of educational grants,” awarding more than 60 undergraduate scholarships to area students each year. Many of the fund’s scholarships are directed toward students with specific academic interests, abilities or experiences. In 2018, the organization established ten $5,000 scholarships for students graduating from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the site of a mass shooting in which 17 people were killed. A complete list of Snow’s college scholarships is available at the fund’s website.

In addition to financial support, the Snow Fund has developed several programs that support scholars as they work toward completing undergraduate degrees. Examples of these programs include stipends for computers and supplies, free college physicals and vaccinations and motivational messages and care packages for students who live away from home.

The fund’s graduate school scholarship program is limited in scope; only previous recipients of Snow’s undergraduate funding who have been accepted by a graduate program are eligible to apply.

Important Grant Details:

The George Snow Scholarship Fund supports students graduating from high schools in Palm Beach County and selected schools in Northern Broward County in Florida. Homeschooled students in these districts are also eligible. More than 60 annual scholarships represent a broad range of award amounts and fields of study. The fund runs an online application system for its awards.
