OVERVIEW: The Ertz Family Foundation supports sports opportunities, youth, education and families in Philadelphia, the Bay Area of California and Haiti.

IP TAKE: This is a new foundation that is just becoming involved in the Bay Area’s philanthropic scene. Thus far, Ertz does not accept unsolicited applications for funding in any of its giving areas.

PROFILE: Established in 2018, the Ertz Family Foundation is the philanthropic foundation of Julie and Zach Ertz. Julie Ertz is a member of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, and Zach is a member of the NFL Philadelphia Eagles football team. He was inspired to start the foundation after a trip to Haiti with Eagles teammates. The foundation aims to “empower others by sharing faith, learning through sports and advancing education to build supportive communities.” The Ertz Foundation is a project of the Impact Philanthropy Group, which is a California nonprofit corporation. The foundation’s areas of giving are youth sports, education and families. The foundation prioritizes vulnerable populations and the geographic areas of Philadelphia, Northern California and Haiti.

The foundation hosted launch events in Pleasanton, California in July 2018 and in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in November 2018. Youth sports grants fund programs that help youth learn the value of exercise, nutrition, work ethic, leadership, teamwork, and accountability. Education grants go towards supporting teachers, schools, and students. Family grants work to restore hope and build communities for families in need. The foundation website does not yet have a grantmaking database to inform grantseekers about past giving. While it currently works in Philadelphia, the Bay Area and Haiti, Ertz plans to expand its work to other places both nationally and internationally in the future.

The foundation does not appear to accept unsolicited grant applications from nonprofits, and it does not provide application information on its website. Send personal requests for school visits, appearances, and motivational speeches to the U.S. Women’s National Team for Julie Ertz and to the Philadelphia Eagles or ZachErtz86.com for Zach Ertz. Direct general questions may be directed to the foundation via email at info@ertzfamilyfoundation.org or via its online form.
