PROFILE: Established in 2003, the EQT Foundation is a corporate funder based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This is the charitable and grantmaking arm of the EQT company, which is the largest producer of natural gas in the U.S. It has operations in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio. The foundation “helps communities prosper through focused giving.” It funds local efforts for education, workforce development, community enrichment and the environment.

The EQT Foundation’s community enrichment grants support food banks, libraries, art programs, farmers’ markets, festivals, volunteer fire departments and other efforts for economic growth. Education and workforce grants focus on STEM topics for youth and training programs for a future workforce. These grants go to science camps, career planning, and in-school STEM curricula. Environmental grants support community gardens, environmental education, green space restoration, watershed conservation and other ways to minimize environmental impacts.

Grants range between about $5,000 and $25,000, with the average grant about $15,000. Learn more about this funder’s local giving by examining its recent tax records. Grantmaking focuses on communities that align with the company’s business locations, especially in Pennsylvania where the foundation is headquartered. Grant focus regions are southwestern Pennsylvania (Allegheny, Greene and Washington Counties), northern West Virginia (Doddridge, Harrison, Marion, Tyler and Wetzel Counties) and western Ohio (Belmont County).
