Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation

OVERVIEW: The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation awards grants to early-career artists in painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking.

IP TAKE: This funder makes multiyear grants, which are particularly helpful to new and emerging artists.

PROFILE: Established in 1995, the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation was founded by Charles Glass Greenshields in honor of his mother. The foundation seeks to “promote and encourage the acquisition and development by students and artists of the necessary training, skills and competence in the traditional means of artistic expression.”

Greenshields provides grants to early-career students and artists working in painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking. They do not fund abstract or non-objective artwork. Greenshields also does not accept applications from commercial artists, graphic designers, illustrators, photographers, animators, and video artists. Click here for a full list of its grantmaking exclusions.

First-time grants are limited to CAD $17,000 and subsequent grants max out at CAD $20,000. Awards are made directly to grantees—not through other organizations. Greenshields accepts grant applications from artists around the world.

The foundation accepts unsolicited grant applications throughout the year. Full applications and all related materials must be delivered to the foundation via traditional mail.
