OVERVIEW: E. John and Patricia Rosenwald conduct their philanthropy through the Edward John and Patricia Rosenwald Foundation, which available tax filings show, gave away around $2 million in 2017. The couple supports a range of causes, including health, human services, and the arts. New York City is an important region of giving. Rosenwald sits on a number of boards, including NYU Langone Medical Center.

BACKGROUND: Edward John Rosenwald Jr. has a B.A., an M.B.A., and an L.L.D. from Dartmouth College. He joined Bear Stearns in 1953, eventually becoming vice chairman. He is now a vice chairman emeritus of J.P. Morgan. 

ISSUES:

HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES: Rosenwald is a director emeritus of National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University and serves on the boards of National Organization on Disability and NYU Langone, all of which he has supported. Other grantees include Autism Speaks, Phoenix House, and Robin Hood Foundation.

JEWISH CAUSES: Grantees include UJA Federation, American Jewish Committee, Jewish Theological Seminary, and American Friends of The Israel Museum.

EDUCATION & YOUTH: Rosenwald supports his alma mater, Dartmouth College, whose board he once chaired. The couple supports Columbia University, Classroom Inc., Kings Academy, and Vassar College, where Patricia graduated. Rosenwald is a trustee emeritus of Brandeis University and a life trustee of NYU.

POLICY & GLOBAL: The Rosenwalds have supported the Council on Foreign Relations, of which Rosenwald is a member.

NYC COMMUNITY: The couple has supported arts institutions The Met (Rosenwald is a trustee emeritus), New York Philharmonic, and Lincoln Center. Rosenwald is a life trustee of Central Park Conservancy. The family has supported New York City Police Foundation.
