SOURCE OF WEALTH: Singer, Actress

FUNDING AREAS: Arts & Culture, Health & Human Services

OVERVIEW: Diana Ross does her grantmaking through the Diana Ross Charitable Foundation, which has given negligible amounts in recent years. One interest appears to be the arts.

BACKGROUND: Diana Ross was born in Detroit. She began singing with friends as a teenager, and eventually formed the groundbreaking 1960s trio The Supremes, creating hit songs such as “Baby Love” and “Stop! In the Name of Love.” She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.

ISSUES:

ARTS & CULTURE: The Diana Ross Charitable Foundation’s tax records show minimal grantmaking in the past ten years. In one year, the foundation gave away around $75,000, but more recently $500 and $5,000 have gone out. One recent grantee was ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers).

HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES: Ross has been involved with Autism Movement Therapy, Celebrity Fight Night Foundation, Elton John AIDS Foundation, Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center, and United Service Organization.

LOOKING FORWARD: It is unclear if Ross, in her 70s, will increase philanthropy via her foundation. She may have other more direct avenues of grantmaking, however, and some important grants may be missing from this rundown.

CONTACT:

The Diana Ross Charitable Foundation does not provide a clear avenue of contact but below is an address:
