SOURCE OF WEALTH: Level Global Investors

FUNDING AREAS: Education & Youth, Arts & Culture, Health & Human Services

OVERVIEW: David and Danielle Ganek conduct their philanthropy through the Ganek Family Foundation, which, according to available tax filings, gave away around $190,000 in 2017. The couple are active art collectors. Another interest is education.

BACKGROUND: David Ganek graduated from Franklin & Marshall. He worked at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette and SAC Capital. He went on to establish Level Global Investors, which closed in the wake of an insider trading scandal.

ISSUES:

EDUCATION & YOUTH: The Ganeks support Behind the Book, a “literacy nonprofit in New York that brings accomplished authors into NYC schools to inspire students to love reading and writing.” Danielle is a novelist and former magazine editor. The couple also support Southampton Fresh Air Home, a summer camp for special needs children. The Ganeks live on Long Island and Danielle is a vice president on the board of directors of Southampton Fresh Air Home.

Other grantees include Columbia University, New York University, Spence School, Taft School, The Boys Club of New York, and the couple’s alma mater Franklin & Marshall.

The Ganeks have steadily supported US Squash, including a $2 million gift to establish the Ganek Family US Squash Head National Coach Fund. The Ganeks both played squash at Franklin & Marshall.

ARTS & CULTURE: The Ganeks are major collectors of contemporary art and photography and have appeared many times on ArtNews’ list of top 200 art collectors. They have supported ArtsConnection, Brooklyn Museum, and Friends of the High Line.

HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES: Grantees include Food Bank of New York City, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and New York Presbyterian Fund. Danielle Ganek serves on the board of Robin Hood Foundation.

LOOKING FORWARD: It is unclear how much money is waiting in the wings here but expect the Ganeks to stick with their select interest areas.
