PROFILE: Established in 1999, the Capitol Federal Foundation (CFF) is a bank foundation based in Topeka, Kansas. The bank’s history dates back to 1893, and with over $9 billion in assets, it is a leader in residential lending in the Kansas and Missouri. The foundation aims to improve “the quality of life in these communities by investing in the citizens of today and tomorrow.” CFF funds local efforts for education, community development housing, the United Way, and other charitable causes.

The Capitol Federal Foundation provides annual grants to support its causes of interest. Although the bank foundation has a website, it does not provide specific details about grantmaking guidelines for local nonprofits. CFF works alongside bank employees, who choose to volunteer and raise money for local charities and then participate in an annual grantmaking vote. It mostly funds programs in major metropolitan areas rather than rural areas. CFF also provides higher education scholarship grants to business students at Emporia State University, Johnson County Community College, Kansas City Kansas Community College, Kansas State University, and Wichita State University.

Grants range between about $250 and $50,000. Learn more about this funder’s local giving by examining its recent tax records. Grantmaking focuses on Kansas and Missouri. Specific places of interest based upon company operations are as follows: Andover, Kansas; Derby, Kansas; Gardiner, Kansas; Kansas City, Kansas; Leawood, Kansas; Lenexa, Kansas; Manhattan, Kansas; Olathe, Kansas; Overland Park, Kansas; Prairie Village, Kansas; Shawnee Mission, Kansas; Topeka, Kansas; Wichita, Kansas; and Kansas City, Missouri.
