SOURCE OF WEALTH: Actress

FUNDING AREAS: Health, Global & Environment, Youth & Education, Arts & Culture

OVERVIEW: Cameron Diaz does her grantmaking through Begin Today For Tomorrow, a philanthropic organization which supports various causes. Health appears to be a priority, as do global and environmental issues. Grantmaking appears to be up at the charity. The foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals and keeps a very low profile.

BACKGROUND: Cameron Diaz was born in 1972 in San Diego. She began modeling as a teenager and worked in ad campaigns for Calvin Klein and Coca-Cola. Her first film role was in The Mask with Jim Carrey and she has starred in a wide array of projects since including There’s Something About Mary and Charlie’s Angels.

ISSUES:

HEALTH: Cameron Diaz via Begin Today For Tomorrow has supported health organizations such as AIDS Project Los Angeles, David Lynch Foundation, and Children’s Dental Health Clinic.

GLOBAL & ENVIRONMENT: Diaz also appears to have an interest in global and environmental issues. She has given steady support to Americares, a nonprofit disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization. Other past grantees include Eco Health Alliance, Nature Conservancy, Forever Wild Exotic Animal Sanctuary, and Messengers of Light, which works for “empowerment of people, protection of the environment, and helping relieve the suffering of those in need.” Diaz via her charitable vehicle also made a recent large grant to Indian Tenure Foundation, an organization that advocates for Native Americans.

YOUTH & EDUCATION: Grantees include Families Uniting Families; New York Sun Works, which deals with environmental education; and Los Cerritos Elementary School, where a grant dealt with arts education.

OTHER: Diaz also earmarks funds for arts organizations like PEN Center USA. She has also been a strong supporter of the Motion Picture & Television Fund.

LOOKING FORWARD: Cameron Diaz is only in her 40s and retired from Hollywood. But there has been an upward trend in grantmaking of late, which may continue down the line. It is also worth noting that apart from Begin Today For Tomorrow, Diaz may have other more direct avenues of giving, and some important gifts may be missing from this rundown.

CONTACT:

Begin Today For Tomorrow does not provide a clear avenue for getting in touch with Diaz but below is an address:
