OVERVIEW: Anthony Moira Saliba conduct their philanthropy through the Saliba Family Charitable Foundation. Available tax filings indicate that the foundation awarded around $110,000 in grants in 2018. Saliba sits on the board of Heritage Foundation. Another interest is education, and the family has supported scholarships.
BACKGROUND: Anthony Saliba received a B.S. in accounting from Indiana University in 1977. He got his start at the Chicago Board Options Exchange, and is founder and CEO of Saliba Venture Management LLC, SalibaCo LLC, and Fortify Technologies. He was also CEO of LiquidPoint, a Chicago-based options technology company he started in 1999. Considered a pioneer and leader in the Chicago derivatives market, he was profiled in the best-selling 1989 book Market Wizards. He is now an author himself.
ISSUES:
EDUCATION & YOUTH: Saliba and family made a $2 million pledge to the Evans Scholars Foundation in 2008 for Chicago-area students to attend Indiana University (IU) on an Evans Scholarship. The IU Chick Evans house was renamed the Saliba Family Scholarship House. Other grantees have included Tutoring Chicago Fund.
POLICY: Saliba has sat on the board of the Heritage Foundation since 2012. He is passionate about free market principles: besides Heritage Foundation, the couple has supported Truth in Accounting, whose goal is to “educate and empower citizens with understandable, reliable, and transparent government financial information.” Saliba is also on the advisory council of Turning Point USA, whose mission is to “identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of freedom, free markets, and limited government.”
HUMAN SERVICES & RELIGIOUS: Grantees have included Santa For the Very Poor, The Gary Sinise Foundation, which serves veterans and first responders, and To Teach Who Christ Is.
LOOKING FORWARD: Saliba is still very much engaged in business, so perhaps more philanthropy will move out of the couple’s family foundation in the coming years. Expect education in Chicagoland and conservative policy to remain a high priority.
