OVERVIEW: Andrew and Dorothy Tananbaum do not appear to have a personal family foundation, but they do support Jewish and educational causes. Dorothy serves on a number of boards and is strongly involved with the Jewish community in New York.
BACKGROUND: Andrew H. Tananbaum received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Fordham University School of Law. He served as law clerk to a United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York and later as president and CEO of Century Business Credit Corporation. Tananbaum went on to serve as president and CEO of Capital Business Credit LLC (CBC).

JEWISH CAUSES: Dorothy Tananbaum has been involved in the philanthropic world for some 25 years and plays a major role in this couple’s giving. She is chair of Makom, an educational initiative of the Jewish Agency for Israel, and is chair of the Jewish Education Project. The Tananbaums have supported Hillel International, YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, UJA Federation, and The Jewish Education Project.
EDUCATION: The Tananbaums have supported Minds Matter, which “transforms the lives of accomplished high school students from low-income families by broadening their dreams and preparing them for college success,” Edvestors, and Ubuntu Education Fund, among others.
OTHER: The Tananbaums are supporters of The Innocence Project.
LOOKING FORWARD: It is unclear if the Tananbaums will eventually create a proper family foundation, but expect their steady support of select Jewish and educational institutions to continue. Because of the nature of the couple’s giving, however, some important gifts may be missing from this rundown.
