American Dance Movement

OVERVIEW: American Dance Movement supports dance education programs prioritizing programs that serve children, youth and disabled people.

IP TAKE: American Dance Movement is an accessible source of funding for community dance programs anywhere in the U.S. Its application page does not indicate when it accepts applications, so check back for information or reach out with questions about timing. Contact information is provided below

PROFILE: Founded in 2009, American Dance Movement (ADM), formerly the Dizzy Feet Foundation, was created by producer Nigel Lythgoe and director Adam Shankman. ADM’s mission is to build “healthy communities through dance by expanding access to dance and movement, educating about its benefits, and inspiring generations of dance enthusiasts.” The foundation’s community grants program supports organizations that “make a positive impact through the benefits of dance.”

Grants for Dance and Community Development

ADM’s community grants program support community organizations that use dance to provide educational, therapeutic and artistic programming to the communities they serve.

  • Grants support nonprofits that serve children under the age of 18 and that serve at least five students or patients each week.
  • Applicants must offer ongoing dance programs; the foundation does not support individual events, workshops or festivals.
  • Organizations must not charge participants fees that are above the cost of operating the program.
  • Community organizations must have a non-discrimination policy, and priority is given to programs that serve disabled people.

Past grantees include schools, hospitals, libraries, parks, social service agencies and after school programs. One grantee, Los Angeles’s Project Miracle, provides performing arts experiences to neurodivergent and disabled individuals. Other grantees include New York City’s Dancing Classrooms, Conga Kids of Los Angeles and North Carolina Arts in Action.

Important Grant Details

ADM’s grants are typically awarded in the amount of $10,000.
