OVERVIEW: Alok and Majini Oberoi conduct their philanthropy through the Oberoi Family Foundation, which according to available tax filings, gave away around $111,000 in 2017. The Oberois support their alma mater, Cornell University. They also support nonprofits in India. 

BACKGROUND: Alok Oberoi earned a B.S. and an MBA from Cornell University. He began his investment management career with Goldman Sachs in 1987 and worked for the firm for nearly a decade and a half, eventually serving as head of international private wealth management. He was named a general partner in 1996. Oberoi went on to cofound ACPI in 2001 and is chairman of the group. 

ISSUES:

EDUCATION & YOUTH: The Oberois support their mutual alma mater, Cornell University. Some of this work has been related to international scholarships and fellowships. The couple has also supported Georgetown University Center for Contemporary Arab Studies.

GLOBAL: Oberoi is a trustee of Agastya International Foundation, which offers hands-on science education programs to rural schools in southern India. The Oberoi Family Foundation is an Agastya partner. Other grantees include The Leadership Foundation of India and Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation. Eternal Mewar is a “unique heritage brand that expresses, embodies and encompasses the core values, principles and the legacy of the House of Mewar.”

HEALTH: The Oberois have supported Norwell Health Foundation and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Foundation.

LOOKING FORWARD:  Expect the couple to stick with their established interests. The couple’s international children should also be watched for philanthropic work. One daughter is based in Singapore.
