OVERVIEW: The Air Products Foundation supports education, health, human services, community development, economic development, arts and culture, environment and safety in Pennsylvania and other areas that the company serves.

FUNDING AREAS: Education, health, human services, community development, economic development, arts and culture, environment, safety

IP TAKE: Although this corporate funder has global interests, over one-third of APF grants stay near the company’s home base in Pennsylvania, which makes it an important grantmaker to know in the region.

PROFILE: Established in 1979, the Air Products Foundation (APF) is a corporate foundation based in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The Air Products company is a world leader in industrial gases that provides gases and equipment to many different industries, including electronics, manufacturing, food and beverage, refining, chemicals and metals. The foundation aims to ” improve the quality of life in our operating communities in partnership with local organizations.” APF funds local efforts for education, health, human services, community development, economic development, arts and culture, environment and safety.

The Air Products Foundation awards grants in the communities that the company serves. Additionally, it engages in in-kind donations, employee directed giving and employee engagement with nonprofit organizations. APF’s main grants program supports the Lehigh Valley headquarters community, other places throughout the U.S. and in international locations too. There is also a separate Lehigh Valley-specific grant program that targets only Eastern Pennsylvania. These grants support nonprofits in Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton. APF has a matching gifts program for its employees and also is a strong supporter of United Way organizations through matching grants.

Grants range between about $5,000 and $2 million. Learn more about this funder’s local giving by examining its recent tax records. Grantmaking often focuses on communities around the company’s headquarters in Pennsylvania. However, the company has operations in 50 countries, so the foundation also has global interests. Past local grantees include the Downtown Allentown Community Development Initiative and ArtsQuest’s Cultural Center.

This foundation accepts unsolicited grant applications from nonprofits. Grantseekers should submit applications through the JK Group, which offers the application materials online. There are no submission deadlines. Direct general questions to the staff at 610-799-7830.
